Voice Actor's Corner - Patrick Seitz

Hi there,

Welcome to the first edition of our new blog, Voice Actor's Corner. Here we talk about the voice actors, who they are and the very characters they voiced. In the wake of all that is happening and with voice actors continued to be overlooked, I think it is time for a change and see that voice actors deserve the same respect and admiration as all famous people combined. That being said, let us began with the first voice actor I picked for our first edition, the dark, brooding and very hammy, Patrick Seitz.

Born in Riverside, CA, on March 17th, 1978, David Patrick Seitz has been voice acting since 2000, starting with his first voice role in the English dub of Amazing Nurse Nanako. Since then, he is not only a voice actor who lends his voice for anime and for video games, but he is also one of the few voice actors who is also a script writer and as ADR director, who works with companies like FUNimation and VIZ Media. Seitz's voice can range between dark and brooding to driven by vengeance and rage or sometimes can be a bit strong and funny or borderline insane and evil. Either way, if you want a voice for a character who is brooding, evil, or funny, Patrick Seitz would be your perfect choice. Believe me, he would be perfect for Ganondorf if there was a Legend of Zelda anime. He would kill it that role real good. But, I am getting ahead of myself. So, with that said, since he has a long list of voices he did, I will focus solely on the characters he voiced that I am familiar with. Shall we began?

Bass Armstrong (Dead or Alive series): Even though DOA2: Hardcore had English voices (which are not so memorable), by Dead or Alive 5 onward, Seitz gave Bass Armstrong that tough and funny pitch that would put Chris Rager aka Hercule Satan from Dragon Ball Z to shame.

Scorpion (Mortal Kombat): Ed Boon may have given us the catchphrase "GET OVER HERE!!", but Seitz gave the ninja spectre formerly Hanzo Hasashi the rage, hatred and vengeance that drives him towards his path to avenge his family and clan.

Dio Brando (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders): I haven't seen Jojo's Bizarre Adventure in any shape or form, but from what I heard from some YouTube videos, Seitz's take on the ancient enemy of the Joestar clan is as hammy and evil at best. One thing's for sure, his voice is anything but useless, or as they say in Japanese, Muda...Muda...MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA...MUDA!!! Sorry, got a little carried away.

Kunzite (Sailor Moon - VIZ Media dub): When VIZ Media acquired the rights to redub Sailor Moon (and dubbing Sailor Moon Crystal), some people were a bit skeptic about the voices (but some still are, which I will do a blog about the voices on a later date), but when the redub came out, they did an okay job. But when Seitz voiced the strongest of the Dark Kingdom's Four Kings of Heaven, he was cold and calculating, as he plotted against the Sailor Guardians. He is no Denis Akiyama, but he made him proud. Now, if only he could say the line from the old DIC dub, "So, the little kittens are out without their mittens." But that story is for another time. And on a personal note on that, Seitz's voice for Kunzite, is what got my wheels rolling, for the way he talked, for it reminded me of the one character I know that could be that dark and brooding. And that character is the one most favorite out of the characters he voiced...

Dracula (Castlevania): If Dio Brando was an insane vampire, then Count Dracula himself is the most driven, brooding and cold vampire that has plagued the countryside with his brand of darkness. Starting with the Dracula X Chronicles (along with the English dub of Rondo of Blood and the redub of Symphony of the Night), Seitz was (to me at least) the definite voice of the Lord of Vampires himself. He turned the line from the original dub of Symphony of the Night, "What is a Man?" into something much more dark and serious when he said the line:

"Mankind, a cespit of hatred and lies! Fight for them, then...AND DIE FOR THEIR SINS!"

With that delivery, Seitz gave Dracula much more depth into his character, especially what the Vampire Lord went through after the death of his first and second wives, making his war against humanity much more darker. And whenever I see Dracula and Richter Belmont speak, I think of Kunzite and my second favorite Ronin Warrior, Rei-Fuan Kento (more accurately Seitz and David Vincent (if there was a Ronin Warriors redub/Yoroiden Samurai Troopers official dub, that is). Of all the voices for Dracula, Patrick Seitz's take on the character is my most favorite one of them and my most favorite out the characters he voiced in both animation and in video games.

My hats off to you, Mr. Seitz. Even though we got other voice actors out there, other than Scorpion, you are the one, true voice of Dracula. Keep on voicing, good sir. I will see you next time. Stay frosty, my friends.

Saraba da (Farewell), for now.

Jason's Gallery - One Big Happy Sailor Ronin Family

In a sea of cherry blossoms, Ryo spends his quality time with the very people he sees as not just friends, but also family as well. Where he sees Mamoru and Usagi as brother and sister respectively, like with Yuli, Ryo starts to have a close bond with Chibiusa. If Mamoru and Usagi go dating, Ryo will be the perfect babysitter for our little pink-headed rabbit kid. Truly a Kodak moment in the making, cherry blossoms and all.

My belated birthday fanart for both Usagi and Chibiusa. Enjoy ^_^

Jason's Gallery - Ryo's Crossover Harem

"Ryo Sanada: The Fire Samurai of Benevolence and his Lovely Harem"

Even though Sailor Moon, Son Goku, and Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom) are the most popular icons in anime, but my most favorite hero of anime above all else is Ryo Sanada from Yoroiden Samurai Troopers (Ronin Warriors). A fearless, courageous and brave teenage samurai, Ryo won't hesitate to protect his world from evil. And as I stated before, even though I paired up his fellow Ronin Warriors and Dark Warlords with both Inner and Outer Sailor Guardians, Ryo is the one person who is a bit picky when it comes to girls. This is why for the creation of this chart here and chosen the type of girls I would pair Ryo up with.

Main Character Heroes:

Ryo Sanada (Yoroiden Samurai Troopers/Ronin Warriors)

Main Girls Characters:

Kasumi (Dead or Alive)

Ayane (Dead or Alive)

Honoka (Dead or Alive)

Tina Armstrong (Dead or Alive)

Lisa Hamilton (Dead or Alive)

Mila (Dead or Alive)

Christie (Dead or Alive)

Rachel (Ninja Gaiden/Dead or Alive)

Momiji (Ninja Gaiden/Dead or Alive)

Helena (Dead or Alive)

Kokoro (Dead or Alive)

Leifang (Dead or Alive)

Hitomi (Dead or Alive)

Rio Rollins Tachibana (Super Black Jack/Rio: Rainbow Gate/DOA Paradise)

Namora (Marvel Mangaverse)

Nefer-Tina (Mummies Alive!)

Yuko Ahso (Valis)

Éclair (Kiddy Grade)

Mai Valentine (Yu-Gi-Oh!)

Tohru Honda (Fruits Basket)

Maya Natsume (Tenjho Tenge)

Lynn Minmay (Robotech/Macross)

Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop)

Kei & Yuri (Dirty Pair)

Reika Kirishima (Time Gal)

Kitana (Mortal Kombat)

Morrigan (Darkstalkers)

Personal Notes:

Ryo was the one person I wanted to pair up with a girl that is not Sailor Moon or Mia Koji (Nasuti Yagyu). But it was a hard choice to make and I got so many reasons I want to pair him up with those girls, as long as is not romantic (more on that later). I want Ryo to be involved with my handpicked girls for some crazy, but awesome adventures.

For those from the Dead or Alive series, the only time Ryo pairs up with the other DOA girls is when he goes to Zack Island, mostly on a friendship basis, especially those like Tina, Lisa, Leifang, Hitomi and Kokoro. Christie, on the other hand, though a killer assassin with a killer body, has much respect for Ryo, though she sees him as her enemy. Ayane, despite seeing Ryo as a commoner, has the upmost respect for the Samurai Ninja.

Rachel's involvement with Ryo is based on his friendship and show of respect for Ryu Hayabusa. Same goes for Momiji, who is a shrine maiden, just like Rei Hino aka Sailor Mars.

Rio, who did appear in DOA Paradise, was also on Zack Island, when Ryo took vacation there, giving him some luck and some advice about women.

And now, for the reason for the other girls, almost like one-shot story ideas.

Ryo meeting with Princess Namora of Atlantis almost in the style like how Milo met Kida in Atlantis: The Lost Empire. To be honest, I never knew much about Namora through the Marvel Universe. Through Marvel Mangaverse I have heard of her through the story, Eternity Twilight, where she saved Bruce Banner from drowning and has fallen for him, which was short-lived.

For Nefer-Tina, you already heard the story about how Nefer-Tina falls for Ryo because of her relationship with his Egyptian decendant Kyoseph. That and revealing that Nefer-Tina was a bellydancer for the Pharaoh's harem. Thanks for the inspiration, aoi-ryu.

Yuko's involvement with Ryo is for a Sailor Moon/Ronin Warriors crossover, where both Inner and Outer Sailor Guardians and the Ronin Warriors and Dark Warlords fight against both the Death Busters and King Glames, the main villain from Valis III.

His adventures isn't just bound on Earth, where he fights evil amongst the stars. Either fighting alongside Éclair and her partner, Lumiere against space criminals or end up with misadventures with Lovely Angels Kei and Yuri, and when not fighting, hears Minmay sing while ignoring Faye Valentine's flirting, but in the most comedic kind of way. BTW, both Ronin Warriors and Cowboy Bebop was created by the same group of writers and artists from Sunrise that go by the name, Hajime Yatate. I thought that name was a person, just like Sailor Moon's creator, Naoko Takeuchi, but now I know.

And it is not just space, but also through time, with Time Gal Reika herself, trying to prevent the space/time continuum from falling apart, which was the inspiration for the final arc for the Sailor Moon/Ronin Warriors crossover, involving Sailor Galaxia and the Dark Champion from Eternal Champions.

For Maya Natsume, though I have seen Tenjho Tenge for a short time on the FUSE channel, alongside Ergo Proxy, she is quite a mystery. When you first see her, she looks like a little kid. But when she taps in her Chi, she quickly ages into a beautiful, buxom woman. This is how Ryo feels when meeting Maya for the first time. Awkward! ;P

Speaking of which, the reason for Tohru Honda is because any girl who lives in a house full of people who turn into animals based on the Chinese Zodiac (except for one) is one sweet and brave girl. Tohru is one girl that could keep Ryo grounded and enjoy being normal once in awhile. Did I forget to mention that one of Tohru's friends is a psychic? I will leave that up to you.

As for Mai Valentine, he was just dropping by when he meets her. That and learning how to play Duel Monsters without being distracted by Mai's buxom beauty.

Meeting Kitana involves Ryo and fellow Ronin Warrior Rei Fuan Kento (Shu Rei Fuan) having an adventure in Outworld. Through Kitana's point of view, she reminded Ryo of Liu Kang. That, and showing Kento her beautiful face in the end of the story, proving that she is nothing like her clone, Mileena, who is part Tarkatan.

Morrigan, as beautiful as she is, is the wild card. In his adventures, Ryo has to resist the temptation from women who will use their feminine wilds to seduce men and Morrigan, the lovely succubus, is no exception.

But, in the end of the day, all the girls are great, but the one girl I will pair up Ryo the most is our lovely ninja mermaid princess, Kasumi. They were made for each other. Star-crossed lovers through and through. Every mermaid needs a prince and Ryo fits that description rather well.

Anyway, that is Ryo's Crossover Harem in a nutshell. Hope you like my choices. If you want to do one, feel free to do so. This one is based on my personal choices.

Poor Mimi. RIP Philece Sampler

 This just in.

Philece Sampler, another actress in the world of animation, has died on July 1st, 2021, one week shy of her birthday. She was 67 years old.

Although started off in TV shows, such as Day of Our Lives and in an episode of the live action Incredible Hulk TV show entitled "Dark Side", Sampler, like most voice actors, shine in animation. She did most of her voice work in English dubs in anime, such as Vandread, the Gundam series, Rurouni Kenshin, Dinozaurs, and so forth. But, she is mostly best known for her voice work in the English dub of Digimon, as both Mimi Tachikawa and Cody Hida. She also did the voice of a very old Toph Beifong in the Avatar sequel show, The Legend of Korra.

Sampler died of a heart attack.

Once again, another piece of a childhood gone too soon. And on a personal note, another voice actor being ignored by the media and all news outlets. Poor Mimi.

Anyway, to Ms. Sampler, you were always fun to watch, especially being Mimi and palling around with Palmon and the other Digi-Destined. Godspeed.
